| Summary of Issue | On a leaf spring assembly, Operational Policy 15 provides guidance to roadside inspectors that a rebound bolt is a violation if it is missing or broken. This guidance should be included in Section 2.4.a of the Enhanced CMV Standard to ensure the vehicle does not pass the inspection with a roadside violation. The defect should be listed in the Dispatch column of the standard. |
| Justification or Need | Uniformity with the roadside program to ensure a defect free vehicle at the time of dispatch. |
| Request for Action | Add a new bullet point in the center column of the Enhanced CMV Standard in Section 2.4.a “Rebound bolt is missing or broken”. The Periodic CMV Standard should also be updated but should include loose since this would be the time to tighten the rebound bolt before it eventually becomes missing. Periodic bullet point should read “Rebound bolt is loose, missing or broken.” |
