| Summary of Issue | The Enhanced CMV Inspection Standard indicates in Section 8.21.b that a hole in the sliding suspension that has a hole 1” larger than its original position would be a defect. On a roadside inspection, the hole must be in use for the violation to be present. The standard should be updated to reflect roadside enforcement and only identify it a defect, and require repair, if the hole is in use. |
| Justification or Need | Uniformity between enhanced inspection and roadside enforcement. Requiring repair of a sliding suspension hole that is not in use is burdensome and disruptive to autonomous operations with no safety benefit. |
| Request for Action | Add language to Section 8.21.b to require a worn locking pin hole to be in use before it would be identified as a defect. The Periodic CMV Standard would not need to be updated and kept to require all holes to be repaired. The periodic inspection would be the time to make the repairs to ensure a defect doesn’t arise later when a worn hole may be potentially used. |
