| Summary of Issue | There appears to be an inconsistency with the wording of an "Advanced Post Crash Inspection" as it applies to CVSA and FMCSA. CVSA uses the term "Advanced Post-Crash Inspection" or Post-Crash Inspection," and FMCSA uses the term "Post-Crash Investigation." FMCSA has separate definitions for Post-Crash Inspection and Post-Crash Investigation. |
| Justification or Need | With the upcoming CCFP study, it would be beneficial to align definitions between FMCSA and CVSA to ensure that inspectors are qualified to conduct the type of inspection/investigation being performed. This will also eliminate any confusion regarding the type of inspection/investigation that should be completed as part of a Post-Crash investigation. |
| Request for Action | It is requested that CVSA Operational Policy #4, the CVSA Post-Crash Inspection Form, and the CVSA website trainings be updated to reflect the same name/wording as FMCSA by changing instances of 'Post-Crash Inspection' to 'Post-Crash Investigation'. |
