Summary of Issue

Daimler has introduced new safety devices in the Fifth Generation Cascadia. Roll away mitigation causes the brakes to activate when the driver's door is opened and has developed electronic parking brake activators. MCSAP officers may see brake lights constantly on once the roll away system is activated. MCSAP officers will need training on tractor protection valve activation with electronic release/activating controls.

Justification or Need

Vehicles are being placed OOS for brake lights being on constantly, inspectors should be advised of the issue so they're aware the brake lights being constantly on is a safety design by the manufacturer and not an equipment defect. New electronic system to activate/release parking brakes require instruction on operation and how they impact tractor protection valve.

Request for Action

Inspectors be advised on issues of stop lamps being constantly on when driver's door is opened and trained on new electronic parking brake activation on Fifth Generation and possibly newer Cascadia tractors.
