| Summary of Issue | There is some confusion in the new Equalizer Spring Suspension diagram in the suspension section of the OOSC. An officer in my agency encountered a loose nut on the upper bolt of the middle spring hanger equalizer that was not caused by a worn or missing bushing. When using the diagram as a guide it references d.2 which would require the looseness to be along the axis and be caused by a worn or missing bushing. |
| Justification or Need | The diagram references subsection d.2 by arrow to the equalizer and connecting rod bolts in the diagram. We believe the intent here was to reference the bushing associated with these joints. This led officers to believe that they could not place the loose nut defect out of service since it was not caused by a worn or missing bushing. This defect should more appropriately fit under subsection d.1. |
| Request for Action | We ask the committee if they agree a loose or missing nut/bolt on these spring hangers or connecting rods labeled d.2 in the diagram would more appropriately fit d.1. If in agreement, we ask that a note be placed under the diagram clarifying when to use d.1 or d.2 with these bolts. Suggested wording "d.2 locations in this diagram reference the bushing. A loose/missing nut or bolt should reference d.1". |
