| Summary of Issue | I came across an issue involving the ABS bulb test in Freightliner Cascadia models built from 2017-2019 model year. There is a NHTSA recall of up to 45,000 units. The bulb self test for ABS may not work if the key is turned off then on to fast. It came to my attention by a carrier who was sited roadside and the carrier received the recall notice after the date of the inspection. Of course when checked at the shop it worked fine. |
| Justification or Need | I don't feel the carrier should not suffer an ABS brake violation if the failure was a result of the quick on off of the key and under the recall. |
| Request for Action | I am leaning on putting out guidance to our inspectors that if they encounter a truck involved in the recall and the ABS self test doesn't work to instruct the driver to perform the test again slowly to ensure the system is operational and if it passes then let the carrier know of the recall to get a hold of their dealer. |
