| Summary of Issue | I would like a change to Ops Policy 5 regarding level 1,4,and 6 inspections and the documenting of within spec brake adjustments. Only those brakes found in violation or part of the hidden part rule, that are not measured, need to be on the inspection form. |
| Justification or Need | Documenting the within spec brake measurements are a huge waste of time during the inspection process with the majority of trucks not having any defective or hidden brakes. The within spec adjustment numbers are only a snapshot in time of brake measurement and of no practical use to us or the industry. Brake adjustment numbers are ever changing with self adjusters, temperature of drums, different application pressures, and other factors. Only brakes with violations and those that are hidden, and not measured, need to be listed on the inspection form. There are many other parts of the vehicle we do not list when they are in spec such as brake lining thickness or tire tread depth. By not listing these good brake adjustment numbers we are not saying we did not check them. |
| Request for Action | My proposal for change to Ops policy 5 would be to not document within spec brake adjustments and chamber size/type. Only brakes in violation and un measured brakes are to be documented on the inspection form. My goal is to remove the wasted time from the inspection process to gather numbers that have no importance. |
