| Summary of Issue | When conducting CVSA inspections, we have been told we must complete x number of inspections during each tour of duty or face consequences that can include discipline. We have been told by our superiors that the numbers of inspections required from our state are federally mandated and not negotiable. Can you tell me what might happen if those federal mandated quotas are not met? |
| Justification or Need | We civilian inspectors are feeling very pressured to produce a set number of inspections per duty shift, and we are being warned that we face internal discipline for not meeting our quotas for the month. In turn, we inspectors feel like we must rush through our inspections to meet the quotas assigned us, yet our greatest fear in so doing is that a major safety defect goes undetected and is a contributing factor in an accident that driver suffers later. |
| Request for Action | We would like a better understanding what federal goals mean to the state and how the need translates down to inspectors and roadside officers. Would our state win federal funding if we produce? Are our superiors on the right track to push number of inspection quotas? |
