| Summary of Issue | The Out of Service Criteria identifies one or more deflated air bags as an "Out of Service" condition. This is found in Part 2, Section 10, Subsection B8. The issue which has come up in Alberta is the aftermarket air bags have become very popular. These air bags (See attached picture below) are completely secondary to the trucks factory leaf spring suspension. |
| Justification or Need | I believe there is a need for a change to the Out of Service Criteria to address this issue. Trucks are being placed "OOS" for having these secondary auxilary air bags deflated, when they do not pose a safety concern to highway users or damage the vehicle while being deflated. |
| Request for Action | If agreed upon make change to Out of Service Criteria to add a note under Part II, Item 10.(8).a to identify deflated aftermarket / secondary air bag suspension to a primary leaf / coil spring suspension does not result in an Out of Service Condition. |
