| Summary of Issue | We are currently working on instructing the April 1, 2014 refresher to all of our officers. I have come accross an apparent issue with the new "Ajustable Axles / Sliding Trailer Suspension System" additions. Section 10(e)(4) and (5) address the attachment of the body rail to either a frame rail or several frame cross members. However, nothing address's the attachment of bogey rails via bolts to aluminum trailers. Our legislation would look at loose bolts as an obvious violation, but since these sections in the criteria specifically look at welds we cannot place the units out of service. I have attached a picture showing a bolted bogey rail. |
| Justification or Need | I would rank this in level of importance equally as high as the importance of addressing bogey attachment welds. Whether its bolts or welds a falling off bogey rail is a serious public safety issue. |
| Request for Action | I would like Item 10. Suspensions, (e) of the OOSC to have an ammendment or addition to include bogey rails which have defects dealing with attachment bolts. |
