| Summary of Issue | Currently the low air warning device is inspected in step 33 (Inspect Required Brake System Warning Devices) of the CVSA NASI Level I procedure. This occurs after the tractor protection system is tested in step 32. Because there is a loss of air during step 32 when testing the TPS it presents an opportunity for the inspector to observe the low air warning device. It would be nice to have the option to test the low air warning device at step 32, and not have the driver build up the air in the air brake system only to deplete it again to observe the low air warning device. This way the driver could just build the air in the air brake system to conduct the air loss rate test (step 34), if required, and for step 36 (check fifth wheel movement). |
| Justification or Need | It would save some time during the inspection process and reduce engine run time, especially when in a covered building. This would reduce engine emissions and exposure of the driver and inspector to engine noise during the inspection. |
| Request for Action | It would be nice to have the option to check the low air warning device during step 32 (inspect tractor protections system) while air is depleted out of the air brake system. |
