| Summary of Issue | Electronic / electric- mechanical shifting transmissions not shifting properly. |
| Justification or Need | There was a truck at Roadcheck that was locked on the on the ramp at the scales and couldn’t be moved for nearly an hour. No one knows why and it suddenly started working again and my feeling is a licensed mechanic should at least be required to check it out and determine if it is safe to send on down the road. The vehicle was safe in the parking lot at that time but we have nothing in the OSS to cover this type of situation. |
| Request for Action | Recently I spoke to the service manager of Atlantic Peterbilt and he said they had one of these type systems that acted badly. The only way they fixed it was by replacing the whole transmission and they replaced it with a standard transmission. The problem was, when it malfunctioned, you could not push the clutch to stop it and even though it was at idle speed it almost went through the side of a building. Should this be an OSS situation? |
