| Summary of Issue | The issue is regarding wheel separations that have already taken place. Based on the OOSC being an imminent hazard situation, as it stands now there is no out-of-service condition that speaks to the separation of a wheel assembly due to bearing failure. Once the assembly has broken away from the vehicle the imminent hazard related to the wheel no longer exists. So unless there is some other condition caused by the separation of the wheel (ie: overload, brakes inop, etc. ) there is no way to capture this condition as an OOS condition. There should be some sort of OOS condition for this documented on a roadside inspection report. |
| Justification or Need | Due to the possible deadly results of a wheel assembly becoming dislodged, properly documenting this type of incident should be addressed. |
| Request for Action | A new OOS condition to include wheel off situations should be developed. They should be recorded and placed OOS whether they be of bearing failure, wheel fastener or rim issues. |
