| Summary of Issue | I have received a few enquiries recently regarding thermoplastic hoses. The current OOS criteria for Brake hose and tubing contains a note stating the following: Thermoplastic nylon tube may have braid reinforcement or color difference between cover and inner tube. Exposure of the second color is an out-of-service condition. |
| Justification or Need | There are two types of plastic lines in existence. Some have a thick outer layer (the colour of the hose) and then a braid layer and then a second off-white colour. However, there are also lines that have a very thin layer of out colour ply and then a lay of white plastic, then a braid and then an inner layer of the off-white colour. Using the current OOS criteria these two hoses are placed out of service at completely different stages of wear. |
| Request for Action | Re-evaluate the OOS criteria and analyse the different thermoplastic line construction and determine if there may be need to update the language in the OOSC to reflect the different types of airlines. |
