| Summary of Issue | There is confusion about whether a brake hose with a leak on the hose side of a connection point meets the OOSC: Brake Systems, h. (3) "Audible air leak at other than a proper connection." The OOSC contains a section on Inspection Guidance - Frequently Asked Questions. Request a question/interpretation be added to that section to clarify the issue. |
| Justification or Need | While attending the 2011 CVSA Workshop, I asked people on the vehicle committee whether a brake hose that was leaking at the point where the hose connects to a metal fitting was OOS? There were differing views about about whether a leak at this point met an OOS condition. The vehicle chair asked me to submit an Issue/Request for Action to have this question addressed in the OOSC, Inspection Guidance - Frequently Asked Questions. |
| Request for Action | Request an Interpretation be added to the section "Inspection Guidance - Frequently Asked Questions", Interpretation #3 - A proper connection is where two metal fittings join together. An air hose with a leak at the hose side of a fitting is not considered a proper connection. |
