Summary of Issue

The reference chart in item 1 (5) of part II in the OOS shows the brake adjustment limit. It would be easier if it also showed the half and full brake defect measurements. It is especially true when it comes to metric measurements.

Justification or Need

Increments of 1/8 of an inch is not that hard to grasp. To illustrate the metric problem, try to do the calculation in thousands of inches, the metric issue gets easier to understand. It wasn't much of a problem teaching older officers but the new ones do not use nor understand much of the imperial system, when it comes time to add 1/8th of an inch the Canadian folks have to add 3.175 mm. The reports have to be filled out in metric and that is when the values get mixed up. Adding the half and full brake defect to the reference charts would make training much easier and might prevent miscalculation at roadside.

Request for Action

Add the half and full brake defect mesurements to the reference charts in item 1 (5) of part II in the OOS. There is an example provided as to what it might look like.
