| Summary of Issue | The current language in the OOSC is confusing for inspectors for loose air reservoirs. It currently states: Air reservoir security; separated from its original attachment points. This leaves room for interpretation in regard to tanks that have no fasteners on one side or the other of an air tank but are still resting on the original attachment point. (Example: tanks on trailers attached by brackets resting on the frame rail.) |
| Justification or Need | A more precise and measureable amount would result in a more consistent application of the OOSC. |
| Request for Action | If the intent of the OOSC is to put the reservoir out-of-service if either side no longer is attached to the attachment point, amend the wording in the OOSC to read as follows: Air Reservoir (Tank), Any air reservoir (tank) attachment that is broken or defective that allows the tank to move more than 2? at any point in any direction. Having a measurement of 2" would specify that a tank with simply loose bolts is not OOS. In addition, it would also be helpful to have both the words "tanks" and "reservoirs" in the wording to clarify for inspectors what the component is. |
