| Summary of Issue | In the OOSC under 9.Suspensions b.(8) Deflated air suspension, the verbiage following (i.e. system failure, leak, etc.) is causing confusion in the field, in classroom and with instructors. Inspectors are seeing the word "leak" and are inadvertently placing vehicles OOS for a leaking air bag. I have seen this confusion time after time in the field, on inspection reports, in the classroom and even with fellow instructors. To place a vehicle OOS for this condition, the vehicle must have a completely deflated air bag. Also, only one deflated air bag will meet the OOS condition. |
| Justification or Need | The wording following"Deflated air suspension" (i.e. system failure, leak, etc.) is causing confusion and making some inspectors believe if you have a leak in an airbag then the vehicle is to be placed OOS. Obviously this is not the case and requires a completely deflated air bag to place the vehicle OOS. |
| Request for Action | I believe all wording that follows "Deflated air suspension" under 9.b.(8) should be removed. In its place, the following verbiage should be added (one deflated air bag would constitute a deflated air suspension). |
