| Summary of Issue | A vehicle was stopped at the Perry Port of Entry (Perry Utah) by a Level I inspector. During the inspection it was found that on axle #4 R/S the bolts holding the bearing (hub) cap, plug, or filler plug had 4 adjacent out of 6 loose. The wheel and the hub area was completely covered in lubricant, and the lubricant had also puddled to the bottom of the wheel during the inspection (very thick texture). There was no hub window to view the level of lubricant because it was solid metal. There was no brake contamination, no smoking, etc. Our question is if the hub has only 2 bolts out of 6 bolts securing the bearing (hub) cap with the lubricant covering the wheel as well a puddled in the wheel well, why would this be only a violation verses and out of service? It looks just like it would if it was broken or missing. Any help with this would be appreciated. |
| Justification or Need | Email was sent to [email protected] with pictures attached. |
| Request for Action | What was decided and how to handle in the future. Any suggestions of information to give the driver/company. We only showed it as a violation, however the carrier did have it repaired prior to leaving so there would not be any problems down the road. |
