| Summary of Issue | In Part II of the North American Standard Out-of-Service Criteria (OOSC), item 12. Wheels, Rims and Hubs, i. Hubs,(3) the first \"NOTE:\" has errors in the references. The "NOTE:" is as follows: "*NOTE: Also refer to Brakes 1.a.(6)(b) or 1.b.(3)(c) if this condition is present. These are references to the brake sections prior to the brake section being reformatted and do not refer to the appropriate sections dealing with friction surface contamination issues." |
| Justification or Need | Even though this is only a "NOTE:", and these are merely references, they may create confusion during an inspection. The note needs to be corrected. |
| Request for Action | Due to friction surface contamination references being located in several parts of the Brakes section (air disc, s-cam, steering, hydraulic, etc) and the potential that other modifications at a later date may change the reference numbers again, it would make more sense to leave the note more generic for reference to the applicable section based on the location and type of the brake in question. Therefore a note indicating the following would be more appropriate: \"NOTE: Also refer to the applicable contaminated friction material criteria in item 1. \"Brake Systems\", if this condition is present. |
