| Summary of Issue | The North American Standard Out-of-Service Criteria (OOSC) for exhaust systems need to be corrected. In the OOSC under 3.a. it allows diesel engine exhaust to leak under the driver area. 3.b. allows diesel and gasoline engine exhaust to leak within 15 inches of the rear of a bus. 49CFR 393.83 no longer says that. |
| Justification or Need | The OOSC should not be in conflict with the Federal regulations. |
| Request for Action | Exhaust System section should be rewritten to reflect actual language of regulations. The opportunity could be used to incorporate the Canadian rules as well. |
