| Summary of Issue | The existing North American Standard Level II Inspection Procedure requires inspectors to check the steering components of the vehicle. However, Step 13 ("Prepare the Driver for Vehicle Inspection") does not include the requirement to have the driver open the hood of the vehicle (power unit or truck). |
| Justification or Need | Checking the steering components of the vehicle is part of the North American Standard Level II Inspection. This would be much easier to accomplish if the driver of the vehicle were to open the vehicle's (power unit or truck) hood prior to the inspector checking the steering components. In addition, the opened hood would expose more of the steering components and would also make it easier for the inspector to check front tires and suspension components. |
| Request for Action | Yukon requests that the North American Standard Level II Inspection Procedure be changed to include opening the vehicle's (power unit or truck) hood prior to the inspector checking the steering components, front tires and front suspension components. This requirement should be included in Step 13 of the North American Standard Level II Inspection Procedure and should also be reflected in the appropriate appendix of the North American Standard Out-of-Service Criteria. |
