| Summary of Issue | Need a clear definition of the difference between a brake hose and a brake tube. The criteria outlined in the OOS criteria, item 1.e. and 1.f. are different. A cracked, broken or crimped air HOSE must restrict air flow where an air brake TUBE just has to be cracked. Is there a difference between a tube and a hose? If so, what is it? |
| Justification or Need | Some inspectors consider thermoplastic hoses to be tubes and take them OOS under 1(f) and others use 1(e). The criteria is different between two and there needs to be consistency. |
| Request for Action | If it is determined that there is no difference between a hose and a tube, then 1(f) should be removed from the criteria and all hoses and tubes should be dealt with under 1(e). If steel tubing off the compressor should be dealt with diffferently and that is the reason for 1(f) then it needs to be specified in the OOSC. |
