Summary of Issue

The current OOSC specifically excludes diesel engines from being placed OOS for exhaust leaks under the cab. As recent as 1996, this was not the case. Non-diesel power commercial motor vehicles make up only a very small percentage of the national fleet.

Justification or Need

Diesel engines put out harmful and dangerous fumes as do gasoline engines. This needs to be addressed. Diesel exhaust is known to contribute to fatigue.

Request for Action

Add diesel engines to the OOSC for exhaust leaks.
