Summary of Issue

Safespect requests a CVSA number be entered when some exhaust systems violations are cited, although exhaust systems are on the critical vehicle inspection items list per Operational Policy 5. Safespect only has some exhaust systems violations labeled with the “Critical” indication on the violation, causing the discrepancy.

Justification or Need

Out of service Exhaust systems violations are prompting a CVSA number be entered, although the vehicle has been placed out of service for an exhaust systems violation and an Out of Service number was placed on the inspection report. Inspectors are selecting the option of “Other” when prompted “why a decal was not issued?” and noting “Critical vehicle inspection item found – Exhaust systems”.

Request for Action

Add the “Critical” label to all exhaust systems violations on Safespect as indicated on the critical vehicle inspection items list per Operational Policy 5 to prevent Safespect prompting a CVSA sticker be entered when exhaust systems violations are cited or when exhaust systems out of service violations are found
