| Summary of Issue | If the inspector discovers an inner wheel seal leaking that does not meet the OOS criteria, SafeSpect only offers two options. Option 1 is 396.5(b) - Hubs - Wheel seal leaking. Only gives an option to place the vehicle OOS. Option 2 is 396.5(b) Lubrication - Oil or grease leak. Does not give an OOS option. However, if you select option 2 then it requires the inspector to enter CVSA decal or give a reason why one was not given. |
| Justification or Need | A leaking inner wheel seal is a critical inspection item (part of the hub assembly), and no CVSA sticker should be applied even if the vehicle is not placed OOS since the leak can lead to an OOS. |
| Request for Action | Add a third option for 396.5(b) Hubs - Wheel seal leaking - that does not have an OOS option, and the inspector will not have to provide a justification of why a CVSA sticker was not applied. |
