| Summary of Issue | Part II, 11. Suspensions a(1) references u-bolts that are cracked, loose, broken, or missing, but does not reference the u-bolt assembly. |
| Justification or Need | On a stop we experienced a vehicle with a cracked u-bolt assembly, but was allowed to continue with a violation because the OOS criteria only references u-bolts that are cracked, loose, broken, or missing. Part II, 11. Suspensions a(2) references the axle housing or other axle positioning parts, but is only OOS if it is resulting in shifting of an axle from its normal position. After further discussion with a member of the ISP CMVU Training Team we discovered there is a picture on page 206 of the OOS criteria that does show a cracked u-bolt assembly and should have resulted in an OOS violation. |
| Request for Action | I would like the wording amended in Part II, 11. Suspensions a(1): Any u-bolt(s), u-bolt assembly, or other spring to axle clamp bolt(s) cracked, broken, loose or missing. (393.207(a)) |
