| Summary of Issue | The new marking of chambers with letters as per SAE J2899 is now in effect and are being mounted on vehicles. The markings are easy to see and tell an inspector and industry what the rated stroke and the pushrod stroke is of the chamber without the need to measure the diameter or determine if it is long or short stroke. |
| Justification or Need | The brake charts in the OOSC, 393.47(e) and Appendix G should be updated to reflect this new marking as the marking does not specifically identify any measurement currently in the brake charts. The chart for these chambers is currently on page 6 of the Inspection Bulletin 2014-02. |
| Request for Action | Add a column in the Clamp Type Brake Chamber Chart for the letters and insert them corresponding to the same size and pushrod stroke as the other clamp type chambers. See Attached document as an example of how it could be included as well as pictures of the chambers. |
