| Summary of Issue | Several years ago, the CVSA Level VI Inspection Proceedures were changed to require Level VI inspectors to use only the WIPP driver's Go/No-Go gauges that were regularly calibrated to determine securement of the package. There is no requirement in regulation or CVSA Level VI Proceedures for the driver to carry the gauge. |
| Justification or Need | Without the gauge present, the inspector will not be able to check load securement and would have to assume that the packages were secured properly during inspection of packages using Trupact II package tiedown assemblies. |
| Request for Action | Add an inspection item in the CVSA Level VI Procedures flip chart under Inspection Item 31 to read as follows: Driver must be in possession of USDOE approved "Go/No-Go" gauge. Driver must allow use of the "Go/No-Go" gauge to allow the inspector to verify package tiedown assembly compliance. |
