| Summary of Issue | Michelin is developing an "Evolving Tread" that will be used on truck tires. The tread will look different than tread patterns that are currently in use. Concern is that inspectors may need help in measuring and determining if tread is in satisfactory condition. |
| Justification or Need | This bulletin is needed to prevent tires with "Evolving Treads" that are satisfactory from being deemed "Out of Service". Preliminary discussions with CVSA and DOT representatives suggested such a bulletin be submitted for consideration as soon as possible. |
| Request for Action | CVSA review and approve attached bulletin so inspectors have a reference to understand how to properly measure the "Evolving Tread". Submitted for review are: Evolving Tread Inspection Bulletin draft submitted 11_DEC_18.docx, a draft bulletin. Copy of "Evolving Tread Design for Commercial Trucks May Be Right Around the Corner", an article published in the December 2016 issue of the CVSA Guardian Magazine. |
