| Summary of Issue | I would like to propose a new Description for Part II of the OOSC - 'CAB AND BODY COMPONENTS'. In this proposed Description (CAB AND BODY COMPONENTS), I further propose an OOS condition to address the driver using a temporary seat, rather than a permanent seat that is secured to the vehicle in a workmanlike manner, similar to the temporary seating condition found under the 'BUSES, MOTORCOACHES, PASSENGER VANS OR OTHER PASSENGER CARRYING VEHICLES - EMERGENCY EXITS/ELECTRICAL CABLES AND SYSTEMS IN ENGINE AND BATTERY COMPARTMENTS/SEATING' Description. |
| Justification or Need | A driver utilizing temporary seating, such as patio furniture, in place of a seat installed by a registered vehicle manufacturer, poses an imminent hazard in the event that the driver must take nominal evasive action during the course of normal transportation. |
| Request for Action | PART II 2. CAB AND BODY COMPONENTS Any power unit that has temporary seating for the driver which therein is not secured to the vehicle in a workmanlike manner. This includes the use of items not designed for use as seats in vehicles, including but not limited to, milk crates, lawn chairs, patio chairs, folding chairs, plastic steps, plastic stools or ice chests.
