| Summary of Issue | Should a missing cotter pin be included in the Out Of Service Criteria as well as a violation in the Federal Regulations Manual. |
| Justification or Need | Without the cotter pin, the castellated nut works loose and will possibly come off causing the steering arm and pitman arm to detach. The cotter pin does not prevent the castellated nut from becoming loose but prevents the castle nut from completely coming off. |
| Request for Action | Discuss the severity of the cotter pin in the castellated nut and if deemed necessary add it to the items that are listed in the steering mechanisms to make it clear that they are part of the criteria if deemed to be imminent hazard. |
