| Summary of Issue | Today we where informed a yellow line alone placed on a friction mat originally established by National Safety Code 10 Cargo Securement 09-23-04, (indicating a COF > 0.8 per ASTM D-1894) is no longer considered a friction mat. However, Page 10-15 section (9) of Standard 10 Cargo Securement - June 2013 indicates; “To be considered part of a cargo securement system, a friction mat must be marked by its manufacturer with the maximum usable friction resistance (in g’s) the mat will provide in restraining cargo against horizontal and lateral movement. Our Load-Grip friction mat products meet and exceed all necessary physical properties and COF values established for over the road and intermodal cargo securement application. |
| Justification or Need | MTO enforcement of this new code is causing undo pressure to truckers and existing client base. |
| Request for Action | We request to please allow us more time to: 1.) Implement a viable printing method in our manufacturing process to place the alpha-numeric information required on each mat. 2.) Time to deal with great number of mats in inventory in Canada. (Current inventory contains only a yellow line) |
