| Summary of Issue | Recently, one of our inspectors in western Pennsylvania conducted a level one inspection on a Tri-Axle dump truck and discovered a dangerous condition that’s not currently covered in the Out of Service Criteria. Specifically, the drive shaft between Axle #2 and #3 was sometimes rubbing a cross member under the truck. The officer could not determine if this was being caused by a condition of loading or if the truck was going over un-even ground. The attached picture makes it clear that the driveshaft was at times rubbing a cross member. |
| Justification or Need | CVSA should consider a change to the OOS criteria that prohibits the driveshaft from coming into come into contact with any part of the vehicle. |
| Request for Action | CVSA Should consider placing this in section 4. of the Vehicle OOS Criteria. |
