Summary of Issue

OOSC, Part II, Item 2., c. & d., describes criteria for pintle hooks and drawbar eye. As the specific terms pintle hooks and drawbar eye are used, other hitch systems with imminent hazard defects are excluded. Some of these other hitch systems include ball hitch with corresponding socket, a roll couple hitch and a pin hitch system. Pictures attached.

Justification or Need

Imminent hazard defects are being found on ball hitches and other hitch systems without the OOSC clearly identifying that these other hitches could be included in Part II, Item 2., c. & d. As a result, the inspecting officer either permits a vehicle with an imminent hazard to return to service or uses criteria that is not clear to place vehicles OOS.

Request for Action

Change heading in OOSC Part II, Item 2., c. from \"Pintle Hooks\" to \"Hitch System\". This will permit the applicable items from that section to be included for all hitch systems not just a pintle hook type hitch. In c.(2) change the term \"pintle hitch assembly\" to \"hitch assembly\". In c.(3) change the term \"pintle hook assembly\" to \"hitch assembly\". In c.(4) change \"section reduction when visible\" to \"pintle hook section reduction when visible\".
