Summary of Issue

The attached pictures were sent in of a secondary bracket that is attached to the axle that appears to support the cam shaft. Often the u-bolts that go into the brackets are found loose or there are cracks at the weld where the bracket is mounted to the axle.

Justification or Need

Some officers are documenting this as a loose or broken cam shaft support bracket. Is it a cam shaft support bracket and should it be treated the same way as the primary support bracket or tube that is common on an S-Cam brake system?

Request for Action

Clarify what the intent of this bracket is and whether it should be included in the 20% criteria as an imminent hazard component.
