| Summary of Issue | I recently contacted a driver carrying hazardous materials. At the end of the inspection he was issued a citation for Failure to Segregat Hazardous Materials under CFR 177.848. In looking at the regulation, it seems to be vague in regards to the segregation issue, and leaves the interpretation of such to the shipper or the roadside inspector. Is there anyway guidelines can be established and relayed to roadside inpsectors and shippers in determining how far apart certain hazardous materials be before they are shipped. |
| Justification or Need | In regards to CFR 177.848 please clarify how far apart certain hazardous materials be before they are shipped / loaded on the same vehicle. |
| Request for Action | Establish a guideline for the roadside inspector and shipper when determining how far apart certain hazardous materials be before they are loaded and shipped on the same vehicle. |
