Summary of Issue

The Actuator Subcommittee of the SAE Truck and Bus Brake Committee has reviewed the Reference Charts in the OOSC for brake adjustment and is suggesting that the outside diameters for Clamp Type and Long Stroke Clamp Type Brake Chambers be changed slightly to better reflect the nominal dimensions of the chambers being produced by various manufacturers (who are represented on the Actuator Subcommittee).

Justification or Need

Adjusting the outside diameter dimensions in the Reference Charts in the OOSC will better reflect the nominal dimensions of the population of standard and long stroke chambers found on vehicles being inspected.

Request for Action

Add 1/8 inch to each of the outside diameter dimensions in the Clamp Type and Long Stroke Clamp Type Brake Chamber tables in the Reference Charts for brake adjustment in the OOSC. After the fractional dimensions are adjusted, compute the metric equivalent and provide new metric equivalents rounded to the nearest whole mm.
