| Summary of Issue | The North American Standard Vehicle Out-Of-Service Criteria, Section 10 (Tires other than front steering axle), does not clearly address the "super-single" tires industry is using more of, and if certain violations would be considered OOS. |
| Justification or Need | Clarification in the interpretation of OOS Criteria to keep enforcement consistent when putting vehicles OOS. |
| Request for Action | The North American Standard Vehicle Out-Of-Service Criteria, Section 10 (Tires other than front steering axle), does not clearly address the "super-single" tires industry is using more of. The first NOTE states, "On dual wheels, both tires must meet one or more of the OOS conditions listed..." One could interpret that if there is only one tire, and not duals, it would be OOS. This request is asking to make the OOS Criteria clear if a tire defect is OOS if using "super-singles" and not to leave to individual officer interpretation. |
