| Summary of Issue | Motorcoaches are manufactured with air disc brake assemblies w/c consist of a caliper unit that slides on a floating pin assembly in application of the brake pads. These units are designed with an enclosed air brake chamber pushrod assembly. In most cases, the brake pads are not visible to determine brake pad thickness. In addition, brake pushrod measurements are not avialable. Manufacturers of these brake assemblies have recommended roadside inspection information. |
| Justification or Need | The NA OOSC references air brake components such as push rod travel for exposed push rods and brake pad thickness. NA Inspection procedures do not reference the procedures for inspection of air disc brake assemblies w/ enclosed push rod assemblies. |
| Request for Action | Interpretation and application of the NA OOSC and inspection procedures and protocols when inspecting air disc brake assemblies with enclosed pushrods. Consideration for incorporation of inspection procedures into motorcoach training program. |
