Summary of Issue

Increase the out-of-service period from 8 hours to 24 hours for the out of service condition of no log book in possession when required. Item number 12 of Part I of the out of service.

Justification or Need

If a driver is faced with the possibility of being placed out of service for a period of 24 hours or more for a violation of the 60/70 hour rule, he or she may tell the inspector they have no log book and only face an 8 hour out of service condition. This should be put in place in the interest of public safety.

Request for Action

Change the out of service action for item number 12 of Part I of the out of service criteria from 8 hours to 24 hours out of service.
