| Summary of Issue | Consider a new OOSC for Wheels. On two occasions, inspectors have encountered a vehicle with dual wheels having a gap betwen them. To further help reduce the incidence of lost wheels, there was a suggestion for an OOS. |
| Justification or Need | Some disc wheels mounted in dual sets have plastic spacers between them. Spacers used between wheels made from similar metal make them easier to separate after extended service. They will reduce fretting which can become serious over a long period of time. Wheels made of dissimilar metals have the spacers placed between them to prevent corrosion. There will be a perceptible gap between dual wheels incorporating these spacers. Tires tend to block the view between dual wheels and the diameter of the spacer is such that it does not protrude. Therefore, it is not always clear that spacers are the cause of a gap. |
| Request for Action | Add the following to the OOSC. Loose dual wheels allowing a gap between mating disc surfaces. |
