Summary of Issue

Aftermarket materials are being used to darken windows, ostensibly to cut down on sun related problems (glare, fading, etc) This material both reduces driver vision and makes it more difficult for others to see what is happening in the cab.

Justification or Need

Because it diminishes the drivers vision, there is a concern that the use of such materials may violate FMVSS 205 and FMCSR 393.60(c).

Request for Action

Consider making the use of window darkening materials an OOS item.
