| Summary of Issue | Foreign manufactured passenger carrier vehicles which do not meet FMVSS requirements are being unsafely operated within the United States. Due to the fact these vehicles cannot be inspected while enroute causes serious safety concerns. |
| Justification or Need | Once passenger carrying vehicles pass through international port of entries they are not reinspected while operating within the United States. Many of these vehicles are being operated by carriers who operate poorly maintained and non-compliant passenger carrying vehicles and are endangering the lives of the passengers and motoring public. |
| Request for Action | I request CVSA petition FMCSA create a method to identify carriers operating foreign manufactured passenger carrying vehicles which are not compliant with FMVSS. I also request CVSA petition FMCSA to change the passenger carrier enroute inspection policy to allow for the stopping of passenger carrying vehicles while transporting passengers using the method developed by FMCSA for identifying carriers. |
