| Summary of Issue | The roadside inspection platform Safespect has an extensive number of violation sections and descriptions listed for the majority of the violation categories. Selection of the proper violation section is crucial to data quality. Violations which are hard coded Out of Service may not be near the non-out of service violation of the similar condition in the pick list. For the violations that have Out of Service conditions, the wording differences in the violation description is often minor. This may contribute to mistakes being made in the proper violation selection being selected. Many times the mistake is found roadside and corrected by the inspector. However, sometimes they are not, which will result in unintended negative consequences. |
| Justification or Need | Incorrect data being submitted during roadside inspections is a problem for all stakeholders, especially the carrier. Making some minor changes to the appearance and location in the pick list for hard coded Out of Service violations in Safespect potentially would reduce inaccurate information from being documented and submitted. |
| Request for Action | This request is for Safespect violations that are hard coded Out of Service to appear in the pick list immediately after the non-Out of Service violation and in a contrasting color or other visual designation. Red would be the natural selection for the difference, either utilizing the color red for the font or background. |
