| Summary of Issue | The CVSA Enhanced CMV Inspection Standard currently includes elements that may conflict with CVSA’s current enforcement guidance and as a result, could benefit from further clarification and revision. |
| Justification or Need | Section 8.h of the Enhanced CMV Inspection Standard requires that the truck’s upper and lower body rails not appear “bent” during inspection. This term generally refers to superficial damage that does not necessarily impact the rail’s structural integrity. Removing this term would align the Enhanced CMV Inspection Standard with CVSA’s Out of Service Manual and broader policy regarding focusing inspection on structural integrity issues. |
| Request for Action | Clarify the definition of the term “bent” and reassess its use in section 8.4h. |
