| Summary of Issue | I had a question regarding unmarked synthetic webbing and I was wondering if you could guide me in the right direction. In the 393.108 tables, the smallest tiedown shown is for a 1.75" strap for 1,750 lbs. If I had a .5" tiedown, could I assume based on this table the WLL would be 500 lbs.? Or what would be the proper way of enforcing an unrated tiedown that's smaller/larger than what the chart contains? |
| Justification or Need | I come across it frequently, and it looks like this: https://www.amazon.com/Inch-Width-Nylon-Webbing-Medium/dp/B07TNF21TZ?source=ps-sl-shoppingads-lpcontext&ref_=fplfs&smid=A1U8ALFX0AE336&th=1. If it has a logo and I'm concerned about WLL I'll try and Google it to see if the website lists anything but a lot of the time it's just a basic strap with nothing on it at all. My thinking was since regulation shows 2" = 2,000 and 3" = 3,000, then 1" would = 1,000, .5" = 500, and so on. Can it be assumed that use an inch is equal to 1,000 pounds? |
| Request for Action | I request to receive enforcement guidance for enforcing unmarked tiedowns that are smaller or larger than the 393.108 table. |
