| Summary of Issue | Alternate fuel driven commercial motor vehicles are becoming more common - both electric- and hydrogen- driven commercial motor vehicles. Inspectors need more guidance on how to inspect and the hazards of these vehicles. |
| Justification or Need | Insp. Bulletin 2015-06 Electric-Drive Commercial Motor Vehicle Inspections has not been updated since 2017. These vehicles are becoming more common and likely have more advancements since this was last revised. Inspections of these vehicles are becoming more common both as the vehicle being actually operated, or towed behind a tow truck. Any information applicable to hydrogen fueled vehicles would also be beneficial with the advancements happening with these vehicles. |
| Request for Action | Suggesting a small ad-hoc committee be formed to review and update or create new inspection bulletins as required to expand on inspecting these alternate-fuel vehicles. Since this topic can be applicable to several committees, maybe have a few participants from EIM, Crash Data (since they likely have significant information for their post-crash inspection course) and Vehicle committees. |
