| Summary of Issue | Police Escort Threshold Requirements Between States/Provinces for OS/OW Permit (weight and dimension) A small # of states, including Indiana and Massachusetts, require 2-4 state police for loads in excess of 200,000 gross pounds. Other states require automatic police beginning at 150,000. While most states have no such triggered weight threshold UNLESS a specific bridge(s) along the route require a “slow down” provision. In addition, states/provinces threshold for when police escort kicks in for dimension varies moderately to dramatically. While SC&RA recognizes unique geographical and other variables may affect some such policies, we again believe in the interest of safety and uniformity a discussion with CVSA and other effected stakeholders may result in meaningful dialogue and recommended best practices. |
| Justification or Need | We're hopeful these issues may be placed on your April Size & Weight Committee for discussion and ultimate recommendation of "Best Practices" by the CVSA Board of Directors to all member states/provinces. |
