| Summary of Issue | The collection and dissemination of accurate Crash Data is critical to the Motor Carrier Safety Programs in North American. Although many programs have been started, the training and practices in place are fragmented. CVSA is in a unique position to align enforcement practices across North American to ensure accuracy, fairness, and uniformity. |
| Justification or Need | FMCSA needs accurate data, particularly in the area of crashes, to support the CSA rating system and the successor to the Safety Fitness Determination rule. Without a comprehensive and coordinated approach, the promise of a dynamic system of rating carriers and drivers will not be realized. |
| Request for Action | Establish A Commercial Vehicle Crash Data Standards and Practices Committee. |
